Begin with the programme you actually want

A good MBA application is a consistent set of evidence supporting a specific educational goal. It is not simply a large document upload. Confirm the exact programme, language, delivery arrangement and intake before preparing materials.

Read the BAHS MBA information and compare it with your responsibilities and intended development. If a specialist master's may suit you better, review the programme comparison before paying an application-related charge.

Check the entry profile honestly

Record your highest awarded qualification, completed relevant study and professional experience. Identify any difference from the normal requirements. Ask whether an individual review is available rather than assuming a condition can be ignored.

For applicants without a bachelor's, the alternative-entry guide explains the questions to ask. Admission and RPL credit are separate matters. Do not describe a positive initial discussion as an approved exemption.

Prepare reliable academic records

  • Qualification certificates and official transcripts.
  • Accurate completion dates and awarding institution names.
  • Module information if previous study is being considered for credit.
  • Translations meeting the receiving institution's requirements.
  • Any additional evidence specifically requested at the formal stage.

Keep originals and translations together. If records cannot be obtained promptly, explain the situation and ask what provisional material is acceptable. Do not recreate a missing transcript or alter a result to simplify the application.

Create a concise professional CV

Use consistent dates and describe your actual responsibilities. Distinguish line management, project leadership and technical contribution. Select achievements that demonstrate learning and judgement rather than presenting every activity undertaken in a role.

Read the MBA CV guide for a structure. Check that job titles, dates and qualifications match the application form. Small unexplained inconsistencies can generate avoidable verification questions.

Write a programme-specific statement

Explain why you want the programme, what you are prepared to contribute and which capabilities you need to develop. Use evidence from your actual work and connect it with the curriculum. Avoid generic claims that you have always wanted success or leadership.

Our personal-statement guide gives a practical framework. Follow the stated length and authorship rules. Editing support must not turn the statement into somebody else's account of your experience.

Clarify references and language evidence

Ask whether references are required, who may provide them and how they should be submitted. Obtain consent before naming a referee. Choose someone able to verify relevant facts rather than a prestigious contact unfamiliar with your work.

Confirm language requirements for the exact programme. Do not assume nationality, a previous English job title or an online format automatically waives them. If you seek an exemption, ask what evidence the academic team accepts.

Keep an RPL request separate and explicit

If you want credit for earlier study or professional learning, ask how and when to request it. Some institutions apply deadlines or sequence the review after an admission decision. The University of London's guidance illustrates why the actual programme instructions matter.

Prepare only the evidence requested and use an outcome map where appropriate. A CV alone may not establish credit. Read the online RPL process before confusing application submission with academic recognition.

Verify award and financial information

Before payment, establish the exact award, legal awarding institution and relevant authority. GOV.UK explains why a teaching provider and degree-awarding body may differ. Ask for award-specific evidence rather than relying only on a registration statement.

Then reconcile the total tuition, initial payment, instalments and additional charges. Read cancellation and conditional-admission terms. A payment receipt does not mean every academic condition has been satisfied.

Review the submission before sending

Check names, dates, filenames and document readability. Remove unnecessary confidential workplace data and follow the approved submission channel. Keep the submitted version and acknowledgement so later questions refer to the same material.

If a correction is needed afterwards, ask how to amend the application rather than submitting duplicates. An organised record helps you respond precisely and avoids uncertainty over which version is being assessed.

Create a final application summary

Keep a short record of the programme, submitted version, outstanding documents, academic conditions and questions still awaiting a reply. Add the dates supplied by the institution rather than guessing a decision deadline. This makes follow-up more focused and reduces the temptation to send repeated applications.

Where a condition depends on another organisation, such as a transcript issuer or referee, record who is responsible for the next action. Inform Admissions if a genuine delay affects the process. Do not claim a document has been supplied when you have only requested it. A clear summary supports accurate communication and lets you distinguish a pending review from a confirmed offer without repeatedly reopening every file in the application pack.

Ask who confirms when all formal conditions have been satisfied.

Read the final decision carefully

Identify conditions, deadlines, approved entry route and any recognised credit. Ask what study remains and when the offer can be accepted. Keep the academic decision and financial schedule together; neither should contradict the other.

Start a BAHS eligibility enquiry and request the checklist for your profile. Use Admissions to clarify missing information before you pay. A completed application flow should end with an offer you understand, not merely confirmation that a form was received.
